Wayfinding where every second counts

Clarity is vital at the largest emergency department in the Nordics

Oslo Legevakt is northern Europe’s largest and most modern emergency department, which receives around 500 patients a day. The reception has roughly 600 employees.

A complex building with various flows
In November 2023, Oslo’s new emergency department Oslo Legevakt opened on the Aker hospital area in collaboration with Oslo University Hospital. The building was constructed during the corona pandemic and has therefore added a separate pandemic entrance and entrance to the infectious disease ward as well as separate zones for the reception of children, psychiatric emergency department and an addiction ward. The design of the building therefore places high demands on well-designed and clear wayfinding. FocusNeo won the assignment to develop, place, produce and install both exterior and interior signage for the new emergency department. The assignment includes, for example, facade signage, interior wayfinding, vinyl graphics, tactile marking, illuminated signage systems and evacuation plans.

A good collaboration is the key to success
As in all large construction projects, the biggest challenge is getting all parties involved to work effectively together. Careful planning and coordination is required for the project to run smoothly and cost-effectively.

Project management with full control
Our clients Oslobygg KF and Skanska managed the project very well, with regular meetings and follow-up with users for progress. We are happy about the great trust we received from the customer. The software we use gives us good management and control over the delivery, while at the same time we can easily carry out changes or additions according to new conditions. The project has been delivered according to plan and will continue with additions and completions in 2024.
